The Not-So-Planned Blessings

If anyone knows me, they know that I am a planner.  Every decision that I have made in life and everything that I do, I plan.  Since I can remember, I have carried around a giant planner filled with my To-do lists.  I like to know what is happening tomorrow and what I need to get done.  However, on May 15th when I came home from work and was not feeling so well, I had the thought to take a pregnancy test and within one minute a little stick showed TWO pink lines that I had not planned to see for at least a few more months.  That's right, Marty and I are pregnant with our first little blessing and much to our surprise...it was not-so-planned.  I am going to be honest, I needed a few days to really get excited and to stop freaking out.  But, the look on Marty's face when I told him assured me that this was going to be our biggest blessing.   This surprise has made me see that sometimes it's the things that we do not plan that will bless us the most.  The things that "just happen" are the things that will change your life forever in ways you never could have expected!
We are due on January 22nd.  We will not be finding out if  the baby is a boy or a girl so, until January, we have named the baby Gus (The Guppy!).  I just couldn't keep calling our him or her "It".  This announcement comes sooner than we expected but, we have 31 weeks left to plan and believe me...The planning has already begun!

God Bless,
Amber

Home made Granola Bars

Granola Bars are one of my favorite snacks so, I wanted to find a good recipe so I could make them myself.  I got this recipe from cooks.com.  They were SUPER yummy!

1c Honey
1c brown sugar
1c peanut butter
1tsp vanilla
6c cereal, oatmeal
1 1/2 c dried fruit, chocolate chips. nuts ect.

bring to boil the honey and brown sugar.  Add peanut butter and vanilla and beat until smooth.  Add remaining ingredients and stir until coated.  Press into a 9x13 pan.  Cut into bars.

Helpful hints:  Move fast.  Once the honey mixture cools, it also turns into a brick!  I would suggest using more oatmeal than cereal if you want chewy bars.  I only used chocolate chips and left out the dried fruit and they were very tasty!

Enjoy!

Stay-Cation!

It's March in Minnesota...uugh!  If you've never lived in Minnesota before you might not really understand the emphasis on the uugh!  This winter seems to have drug on forever, I swear, it is always snowing!  A few of my friends were fortunate enough to go on a vacation to Mexico.  Seeing their excitement and listening to their plans just fueled the spring fever that the rest of us girls had been feeling!  So, since most of us could not afford to actually get on a plane and fly to a tropical paradise, we decided to make our own!  Marty left for the day and most of the night.  We turned the heat up to 76 degrees...everyone wore their favorite summer outfit and flip flops (slippers were banned from the house!)  We made fun tropical drinks, and tons of yummy appetizers and smoothies!

For dinner we made Margarita Pizza and tomato basil and mozzarella salad...yum!

Some all-inclusive resorts have a swim-up bar...the Richter's Resort came fully loaded with a foot soak bar!  We dipped our toes in the warm "ocean water" while sitting beside palm trees and listening to the sounds of the ocean.

We gave ourselved pedicures and got those feet ready for the sun!

It was a great night chatting and relaxing together!

The locals sang us some sweet island tunes!

Even the birds were singing a sweet song for us!

After watching "Mamma Mia"(thanks for packing that one Mom!) it was time for us to wrap up our vacation. It's always hard to go back to the realities of everyday life after a relaxing staycation but...we made some great memories!

Until next year ladies!

Children Obey Your Parents

Last week at our Bible Fellowship, our Reverend was talking about how we need to obey God to be found faithful servants.  For God to be able to fulfill all of His promises to us, we need to be obedient and faithful to Him.  As a teacher and a person who really enjoys observing children and looking at things from a child's perspective, I found this to be very interesting.
Ephesians 6:1 Children Obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right
Typically when I read this verse I think of it as a guide to raising children, as it is.  In the Bible, God gives children one responsibility, "Obey your parents".  What a great thing to teach your children.  If you can teach a child at a young age to obey their parents, it will pave the way for them to have the strength and boldness to obey and believe God with their whole heart.  However, while sitting through Bible fellowship, this verse came to my mind in regards to what was being taught.  We, born again believers of God, are His dear children.  This verse is a tool for our spiritual walk as well.  We need to obey God for we are His children!  It is so amazing to me to see the love that God has for us and how ready He is to shower His love upon us.  If you think about it simply obeying God is not that hard...we just need to train ourselves to do so, just like you would with a small child!  It starts with small baby steps...then the baby steps will grow leaps and bounds, if we simply believe and obey!

Let's Start at the Very Beginning

Lets begin...
A few months ago I went through some very big changes in my life, almost six months ago to be exact!  On July 24th I married the most amazing man that I know.  After the dust settled from our wedding day, our amazing honeymoon and moving in together for the first time, I am beginning to realize that I have let some major things in my life slide.  There are areas in my life that I need to sharpen up on and continue to grow.  It is my goal to use this blog as a study tool and a task manager for myself.  I would like to get back to studying in depth a section of God's Word each week and writing about it.  I am hoping that this little blog will be an outlet for me and help me with a little self-reflection to become the Wife and Woman of God that I desire to be.  So...let's begin!
